Şerif Mardin (born 1927) is a prominent Turkish sociologist, political scientist, academic and thinker. In a 2008 publication, he was referred to as the "doyen of Turkish sociology." ==Early life and education== Mardin was born in Istanbul in 1927. Mardin completed high school education in the US in 1944. He obtained a bachelor of arts degree in political sciences at Stanford University in 1948.
